ARTIST - BOB AND ROBERTA SMITHI seem to love this work. Typography is the medium of choice for plan B and i aim to make the style of font as eccentric and colourful as i can. Bob and Roberta work large scale and so will I- this is because i want my work to be recognised.
The next steps are to create a laser cut template and then start to compose my poem in order of size of font/style. Maybe i need to do more research on the historical element of the text and musical lyrics. STENCILI copied, traced the typography from Peter Saville's hacienda designs for my stencil that i will probably make using CAD laser cutting technology. This is so i can start composing my poem of manchester song lyrics on a larger scale. hopefully on a canvas of 5 x 8 ft.
HACIENDA GRAPHICS. MUST FOCUS ON FACTORY GRAPHICS.Peter Saville - Factory Records and Hacienda Graphic DesignerARTIST RESEARCH - ANONYMOUSI find this a clever approach to graphic design. Its direct and honest- I like how this person manipulates famous quotes to suit his/her character and interests.
THE OLD GOLDEN SAVAGESI think i will use this poem type composure as a foundationThe composure is absolutely abstract so i may need to simplify by selecting the most relevant lyrics. I also think i will need to draw up and memorise all the lyrics, their dates and who they belong to (just so that i do not look dumb when someone asks questions) BE KIND, COMMENT WITH FEEDBACK SO I CAN DEVELOP MY WORK. PLEASE AND THANK YOU!SAMPLING MUSICHere on the left hand side of the page is an introduction to the typography piece that i will use for the first exhibition on manchester subcultures. My work will be focused on abstracting the style and attitude from combined influences of manchester music scene and manchester based band lyrics. The band lyrics have been carefully selected so that i could combine them to flow a bit like in the form of a poem. I'm trying to some how express Mancunian attitude through one of the sole influences of the city's style, music. On the right is a copy of the cover of one of my favourite books. The vague relevance of 'Fairground Art' is a single line i picked out of the film 24 hour party people: Steve Coogan plays Tony Wilson as he describes the overall atmosphere of the Manchester famous club the Hacienda, "The Hacienda was like a Fairground ride with a machine in the middle bringing us back down to Earth. In the end, nobody can beat reality" Steve Coogan playing Tony Wilson in the film '24 Hour Party People' I feel like this idea, combining fairground art typography with manchester style and attitude is too slap dash. I cannot decide if this quote is relevant enough... maybe i just need to simplify everything.
CAD design development of how i want my work to be viewedSo here i've highlighted the vinyls (which will eventually be painted white). This is so that you can all see exactly where i intent on projecting film onto.
The space surrounding it will be filled with a separate idea that i have decided on.. Its called: 'Plan B'. There will be a separate post about this idea. A lot of space is required for my viewing because i think the scale of this work will tie in very well with the sheer extremity and the insanely large popularity of the 'Madchester' music scene. Maybe. |
