- The structure of the canvas which i will build needs to have squared scale of 60" in. or 5 ft. In the thinking process i need to consider mechanical physical elements as i design and create the instillation. - Electrical technicalities: lighting, type and quality of projection technology (consider what might go wrong), electrical appliances available in space. -Combined understanding of lighting, film and the surface i will project onto. Also I need to consider how the light may change in the space I am given too.
An Immersive film instillation projected onto the Brooklyn Bridge, NYC, 2010. The technology used consisted of 20 projectors surrounding the building, totally covering the surface of the bridge and immersing viewers... probably why the title of the piece is 'Immersive Surfaces'. I know that a lot of technical thought will go into a project this complicated, ambitious and incredible.
This will be a side project and not sure how i will approach it but i think by simply listening to radio stations with constant conversation would be a great place to start.
THE QUESTION STILL REMAINS: HOW WILL MY WORK BE VIEWED?
CAD model #1 As this exhibition will be in the night club, 'Sankeys' (Manchester), I have to think about how i will present my piece. Firstly I'm going to think about the scale of the space i'm aloud to use. secondly I want to think about how i'm going to use it (lighting, positioning of canvas, projector... etc.). Once i'm aware of all of this: choice of material, quantity, budgeting and severe time limit will become my priority.
Moving image film be projected primarily on the vinyl records- the vinyl records will be fixated with numerous 2mm width copper coated steel wire rods.
Used the primary idea of making a canvas of tapes and vinyls that will act as a kind of background. I find this idea too visually complicated so it may be dropped during the development of this project.
BEFORE I start making any kind storyboard plan for a film conveying manchester's music history, I need to think about how the film will be viewed. In detail. The idea above is one that was thought of on the train to London. Sometimes travelling makes me much more focused on my work because i'm forced to work with a set time.
